As anyone who follows Neuromics on social media knows by now, Neuromics is the proud title sponsor of Sunflower State FC (learn more about our partnership here). Sunflower State FC (SSFC) is a semi-pro soccer team based in Kansas City, KS. The team's mission is to provide opportunities for players to compete at a high level from all walks of life, something Neuromics strongly endorses.

This past week, Neuromics and SSFC collaborated in a discussion to learn about what some SSFC players are doing off the field. Specifically, with Neuromics being a biotech company, we wanted to hear from players who are involved in similar fields. Our CEO Pete Shuster met with Wyatt Fowler and Dakota Okwuone from SSFC to learn what they’re doing when they aren’t playing for the Sunflower’s.

In the discussion, we learned that Wyatt Fowler will be pursuing a graduate degree in Biostatistics from the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) after completing his studies at Benedictine College, where he is a mathematics and computer science major. Wyatt has already used his computational skills to look into what statistics best produce success on the soccer pitch.

Meanwhile, Dakota Okwuone is currently an MD-PhD student at KUMC. He is in the process of choosing whether he wants to pursue a Phd in biochemistry, cancer biology, or pharmacology. In the future, Dakota aspires to be a cancer researcher, wanting to look into the pathways leading to cancer metastasis and develop therapies to treat cancer.

While Neuromics continues to be proud of the performance of SSFC on the pitch, it was very cool to learn about some of the meaningful things that Sunflower’s are doing off the field as well.
