Endomorphin 2 is an opioid peptide and is one of the two endomorphins, with the other one being endomorphin 1. It binds to the mu opioid receptor, along with endomorphin 1. Endomorphin 2 is very prevelant in the spinal cord. Upon binding to the mu opioid receptor, endomorphin 2 leads to the release of dynorphin A and met-enkephalin. |

Immunohistochemical staining of Endomorphin 2 in rat ventral lateral periaqueductal grey matter (PAG). 4% paraformaldehyde fixed rat brain 10 μm thick cryostat sections were incubated with rabbit polyclonal antibody to Endomorphin 2 at 10 μg/mL overnight at 4°C followed by incubation with Donkey anti-rabbit Rhodamine Red conjugated secondary antibodies at 1:200. Tissue was counterstained with DAPI (blue color) to visualize cell nuclei.
