CD146, also known as cell surface glycoprotein MUC18, melanoma cell adhesion molecule and melanoma-associated antigen MUC18, plays a role in cell adhesion and in cohesion of the endothelial monolayer in the vascular tissue. It is expressed in endothelial cells in vascular tissue throughout the body, and may be found in vascular smooth muscles. It is also associated with tumor progression and metastasis development of human malignant melanoma. |
